Portrait Ideas for a Football-Loving Family

Roberta May

It can be fun to sit with your loved ones and come up with an idea for a creative family portrait. Portrait photographers love creativity, and planning a unique photoshoot can be exciting for everyone. There are many different routes that you can take, but if your entire family is passionate about your city or state's college football team, this can be a good place to start. Here are some ideas to keep in mind as you prepare for your family portrait session.

1. Attire

When it comes to getting dressed for your photoshoot, the most obvious choice will be for every member of your family to wear attire that reflects your support of the college football team. Assess what apparel you have — for example, each member of your family may have a jersey or a T-shirt. Other good options can be hats, scarves, and even leggings in your team's colors. Don't be afraid to go shopping to buy some additional items that will make you stand out even more in your portraits.

2. Location

Think about the different locations around your area that might work well for this photo session. If you live just a short distance from the football team's stadium, consider seeing if you can meet in the stadium parking lot. Having this large building as your backdrop can add a nice touch to each photo. There are other options if the stadium isn't convenient. Consider the football field at a local high school. You may be able to pose on the field itself, or perhaps on the bleachers. If your family enjoys tailgating at college football games, another idea is to sit on the tailgate of your truck.

3. Poses

Your family can pose for your photos in many different ways — you just need to decide how creative you want to get. Of course, there's nothing wrong with your portrait photographer conventionally arranging you. For example, you might all be standing in a group, or perhaps sitting on something. However, given the football theme of your shots, there are other opportunities to consider. One option is to pose as though you're cheering because your team has just scored a touchdown or won a game. One person might have their arms in the air, two people could be hugging, and someone else could be pumping their fist.
